Government Contracts for Inventors
Selling through government contracts

So you think that your big idea product would solve problems for city, county, state and federal agencies.
Products that solve costly money and time problems have the best opportunities over “me to” suppliers of commodity products.

Getting to be a certified distributor or manufacturer takes a very high level of due diligence examination of the owners and the company they own. A strong resume is required and often some length of time in business with proof of prior contract fulfillment is required.

Selling through established government suppliers, who also show their products at specialty trade shows, is one of the best ways of showing and selling unique problem solving products.

Gathering data to confirm the level of costs in money, time, aggravation, and difficulty in getting needed, parts, repairs, training and trained operators is needed to show C Level administrators for approvals.
Meeting users and their supervisors in the field and at trade events with specific questions is required.
Sometimes just watching things being done, with a stop watch is vital. If you can get the cooperation of a site supervisor by documenting his aggravation all the better. Asking what specifications, features and benefits he would want and need in a new product is vital in making any prototypes.

Finding and reading trade publications and listening to experts on websites will give you a sense of the level of the problems you are looking to solve at a handsome profit. There may even be private groups or foundations that would help fund all or part of the price of safety or beautification equipment.

If there is enough expressed pain in the problem, the government agency leaders with likely want to connect you to their preferred vendors.

There is no shortage of government contract advisors on the web. Private advisors charge, of course.
The good ones will eagerly share their current and past success stories and references.
And there are government funded and non-profit donation funded organizations that don’t charge.
